Making Cities: Skylines More Player-Friendly
Cities: Skylines is an incredible city-building game packed with features, but its main menu has always felt a bit cluttered and confusing. Players were struggling to find what they needed quickly, leading to frustration. So, I decided to take on the challenge of redesigning the main menu to make it more user-friendly.
The Goal
I wanted to create a main menu that’s clean, intuitive, and easy to navigate. The aim was to improve the overall player experience by making it simpler for players to access all the great tools and features the game offers.
How I Did It
- User Research: I started by diving into forums, talking to players, and analyzing feedback to understand their needs and pain points.
- Wireframing: Using this insight, I sketched out a new menu layout that was organized and easy to use.
- Visual Design: I focused on making the interface modern and appealing, using bright colors, clear icons, and bold typography.
- Usability Testing: Finally, I tested the new design with players to make sure it met their expectations and made navigating the game easier.

What I Learned
This redesign project, though unofficial and just for study purposes, really highlighted how important good UX and UI design are in game development. By focusing on what players need and incorporating their feedback, I was able to create a main menu that could vastly improve their experience. Even though it won’t be launched officially, this proposal could be a great reference for future updates to Cities: Skylines.
