Empowering employees through education
We faced the challenge of a lack of a quality LMS product that offered customization and a vast library of courses with excellent ratings for companies that offer educational benefits to their employees. To address this challenge, we developed a new and important step for Escola Conquer in the area of educational benefits for employees.
Problem Statement
We faced the challenge of a lack of a quality LMS product that offered customization and a vast library of courses with excellent ratings for companies that offer educational benefits to their employees. To address this challenge, we developed a new and important step for Escola Conquer in the area of educational benefits for employees. Developed by the Business Unit Conquer In Company (B2B), our LMS offers more convenience and customization, so companies that purchase the system can customize the platform in the way that works best for their employees, focusing on user experience and engagement in the courses.
Research Methods
To gather information about users and their needs, we used data from a previous and very similar project to understand the profile of users, we did an analysis of competing products (benchmarking) and we used the styleguide of other products from the same business unit to have more consistency among them. The entire process of defining the business and the discovery process was done before I joined the team as the lead UX/UI designer.
Insights Gained
Through our research, we discovered that developing people is not just a need for organizations, but also a desire for employees. 75% of professionals consider career progression as the most determining factor for accepting a job offer. 87% of employees are experiencing a skill gap or are expected to develop one in the near future. 77% of employees are willing to learn and acquire new technical/behavioral skills. However, Brazilian companies dedicate 24 hours to training each employee, against the global average of 35 hours.
Sketch, Wireframes, and Prototypes
We created wireframes and prototypes to visualize and test the usability of the LMS. Our design was based on the research and insights gathered during the research phase. We chose a mobile-first approach based on the data indicating that more than 70% of the users of similar platforms accessed the courses via mobile devices. We also created the desktop version with all the mobile features and a few more details, such as the batch import of users.
User Testing
We conducted user testing to gather feedback on the usability and effectiveness of the LMS. Participants were asked to complete tasks and provide feedback on the design and functionality of the LMS. The results of the user testing helped us to make improvements to the design of the LMS. Based on the feedback received, we made changes to the layout, navigation, and functionality of the LMS to improve the user experience.
Takeaways
Through this project, we developed an LMS that addresses the lack of a quality LMS product that offers customization and a vast library of courses with excellent ratings for companies that offer educational benefits to their employees. We used research, design, and evaluation phases to create a user-centered product that addresses the needs of the users and the strategic objectives of the organization.
Our LMS is expected to have a positive impact on the users by providing them with a convenient, customizable platform for learning. It is also expected to have a positive impact on the business by helping companies to develop their employees and meet their strategic objectives.
Learnings and Future
From this project, we learned that it’s important to take into account the company’s specific needs, the user’s profile, and the trends in the market to create a product that meets the business objectives and also is user-centered. Also, we learned that a mobile-first approach can be very effective in increasing engagement and user satisfaction.
The experience of this project has influenced our approach to design in the future by highlighting the importance of considering the company’s specific needs and the user’s profile in the design process. It has also reinforced the importance of considering mobile usage and designing for different screen sizes. Additionally, the experience of conducting user testing and incorporating feedback has emphasized the importance of testing and evaluating designs in order to improve the user experience.
