Independent study · Companion app concept

Fortnite Progressive Companion App

Exploring how a progressive companion app could extend Fortnite’s engagement beyond gameplay.

Independent design project. Not affiliated with or endorsed by Epic Games. This is a companion experience outside gameplay.

context

Context and challenge

The concept explores a companion interface for customization, shop browsing, progression and player information outside the game. Live data and account actions remain integration hypotheses.

The challenge

Companion apps can strengthen engagement, but native app development creates distribution friction. The project explored whether a PWA could deliver similar value with less platform dependency.

process

How the experience was shaped.

01

Competitive Analysis

Benchmarked companion apps from major games to identify useful patterns and engagement opportunities.

02

PWA Strategy

Explored progressive web app advantages such as build once, run everywhere, no download friction and platform flexibility.

03

Interface prototype

Designed mobile and web flows for login, locker, battle pass, item shop, quests, map and profile.

project scope

Prototype scope and open questions

Represented in the design

Mobile and desktop flows for login, locker, Battle Pass, shop, quests, map and profile. The screens communicate interaction and content hierarchy.

Still hypothetical

Epic authentication, synchronized inventory and progression, live map or shop updates, purchases and account changes. This is an interface concept; live service integrations are outside its scope.

Technical limits

API availability, permissions, data freshness, purchase authorization and cross-device synchronization require feasibility work before these flows can function as a live service.
